Discovering Casa Grande
Casa Grande Bambito Highlands Resort has to be one of the most beautiful places to visit in Chiriqui, Panama. If this is your first time coming to Panama and you want to experience something almost magical, you need to go to Casa Grande.

Located in “Tierras Altas de Chiriqui” (high lands of Chiriqui), Casa Grande is 450 kilometers from Panama City. If you’re coming from Panama City and plan on taking a plane, it’s going to take 45 minutes to get to Casa Grande. If you’re going on a road trip of some sort, expect a 6 hours ETA from Panama. Getting to Casa Grande won’t be a problem, every local knows where the project is located and they’re always willing to help.
The rooms in this hotel are simply amazing and for some strange reason are surprisingly high tech. Every room is equipped with a digital iPod AM/FM Clock Radio, Plasma TV and a safe deposit box. This all might sound very corporate yet the rooms don’t feel that way. Actually the rooms are quite comfortable and natural. I’m not sure how they managed to put so much high tech gear in a simple looking room and make it feel right. They really did a great job with the layout.

The rates are almost in the sky, but you can definitely notice the value of this resort once you step into the lobby and Jr. suites. You don’t even have to bother looking at the royal suite; the junior room will be beautiful enough to convince you. If you have the opportunity to stay here, you won’t regret it.

This small, inexpensive motel is on Avenida Belisario Porras in Boquete. This a right turn just after the Texaco station when you come into Boquete. Colibri Lodging is a short walk from downtown Boquete.
For $18 a night at Colibri Lodging you get a private bath with hot water in a comfortable, clean room. From this central location you can explore the town of Boquete and the uplands of Chiriqui Province.
Boquete sits in an upland valley at 3,000 feet. However, the surrounding ridges go to 4 and 5,000 feet. If you are into mountain hiking you can climb Panama’s highest peak, Volcan Baru which stands 11,398 feet at the summit. If you are going to take on this challenge don’t forget that even in the tropics it gets cold at high altitude. In fact, you will want a jacket for the evenings around Boquete where it will drop toward 60 at night.
Because Panama can get a lot of rain its upland rivers are great for white water rafting. While you are at Colibri Lodging in Boquete check in with the local outfitters. There are class 4 rapids in Panama waiting for you. For those less inclined to suicidal activities there are class two and three rapids more amenable to sightseeing and the occasional excitement of white water.

Boquete and the surrounding area have a variety of nice restaurants. We suggest you start in town and, if you stay for a bit, work your way up into the mountains at some of the resort communities for a meal or two. With what you will save at Colibri Lodging you will be able to eat well.
